Sophronia Temminnick is back in book #2 of Gail Carriger’s Finishing School series. Never one to stay out of trouble her new adventure has her looking into the perpetrators of a kidnaping attempt on her best friend Dimity. Dimity’s parents have created a device called a Guidance Valve, that attracts unwanted attention from both the supernatural and human world. As expected Sophronia uses her smarts to get to the bottom of things when the adults around her drop the ball.
On the relationship front, the makings of a love triangle are still there as Lord Mersey a very rich and esteemed suitor has asked to court Sophronia. While she still claims that her relationship with Soap is just a friendship her feelings often betray her, and you can see that she does care more than she lets on.
As with all the Gail Carrier books I’ve read, this one is funny. It’s captivating and filled with characters you wont forget with names you probably can’t pronounce, (Lord Dingleproops anyone?) that will keep you interested until the end. Book #3 entitled Waistcoats & Weaponry is out this year and I can’t wait to see what Sophronia gets involved in next.
