What Happens: In this elemental assassin novel Gin is moving closer to her goal of getting her revenge on Mab Monroe, the woman who killed her family. It’s not going to be easy, since Mab has hired an assassin named Elektra LaFleur to kill Gin. Mab doens’t know that Gin Blanco that runs the Pork Pit is also Spider the assassin, and Gin is trying to keep it that way— so the people she cares about remain safe.
What I Thought: This book was great, really interesting story line, and more information about the gritty and sometimes disturbing world Jennifer Estep has created. Although the end goal is for Gin to go toe to toe with Mab, this book didn’t feel like filler, and it sets up the next book well for the final fight.
I did find this book to be a little repetitious. Gin’s doubts and feelings concerning her relationships with her boyfriend Owen and sister Bria were mentioned quite a bit throughout the book. However, I guess it can be seen as the usual roller coaster of emotions that women go through. It takes Gin awhile to actually believe Owen cares for her and doesn’t think she’s a horrible person. I’m so happy Bria finally knows Gin is her sister and the assassin spider, and I’m hopping their relationship gets better. I’m a huge fan of this series and this authors writing style, so I can’t wait to read the next book.
