Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill (Chicagoland Vampires #1)

Wow, so this was not at all what I expected. I guess maybe the cover threw me, the girl on it looks about seventeen and it made me think it would be a book for maybe a young teen audience-and I mean it still can be it’s just the lead character is almost thirty. I guess the saying “never judge a book by it’s cover” is appropriate here.

Merit the main character, a 27-year old college student is attacked by a vampire and then turned into one by another to spare her life. When she awakens she joins the world of vampires who have just made themselves known to the public -and gets involved in the drama that is their hierarchy.

She falls for the head of a group of vampires (Ethan) who doesn’t exactly reciprocate those feelings in the way she wants. In her new life as a vampire she discovers she’s stronger and faster then most newly changed vamps (no real explanation for that) and is put in charge of guarding Ethan and the group of vampires he leads.

The rest of the story is focused on murders that are being committed in their city , with vampires being the prime suspects. Merit and company try to figure out who is responsible of the murders, so the human world doesn’t decide that coexisting with vampires is not such a good idea after all.
It was a fun and easy book to get into, looking forward to book #2 in the series.
